Our Beliefs

Friedens Church Statement of Faith

Friedens Church acknowledges as its sole Head Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the Savior of men.

We acknowledge as brothers and sisters in Christ all who share in this confession.

We look to the Word of God, the Scriptures, and to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, to prosper its creative and redemptive work in the world.

We claim as our own the faith of the historic Church expressed in the ancient creeds and reclaimed in the basic insights of the Protestant Reformers.

We affirm the responsibility of the church in each generation to make this faith its own, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God.

In accordance with the teachings of our Lord and the practice prevailing among evangelical Christians, we recognize two Sacraments: Baptism and the Lord's Supper or Holy Communion

Authority of the Scriptures

The Bible is our authority, our ultimate rule of faith and practice. At Friedens Church we have a high view of the inspiration and authority of God's Word. We take the Bible seriously, approach the text eagerly, and seek to discern together the meaning of God’s message for our lives today.

Service

As individuals we are urged to act in accordance with our understanding of God’s will for our lives. As a community of faith, guided by the Holy Spirit, we also work together to establish God’s Kingdom of justice, love, and peace. Our work together will include helping those in need, building up, reconciling, healing, supporting, and teaching.

Sacraments

We recognize two sacraments as instituted by Christ: baptism (through which we are joined in faith to Jesus Christ and welcomed into fellowship of the church) and Communion (the meal of broken bread and shared cup, taken in remembrance of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, and with the promise of His return.)

Growth in Faith

With the freedom we claim in Christ comes the responsibility to continue to grow in faithfulness. We offer various opportunities for spiritual growth including: worship, Bible studies, Christian education for all age groups, Confirmation, and other opportunities.

Cooperation with Other Churches

Friedens has a long history of working alongside other churches and Christian organizations in the service of Jesus Christ, and we are committed to continuing that work. We believe that Christ has one Church, and we gladly seek fellowship and cooperation with other Christians who faithfully proclaim the gospel and honor the authority of God's Word.
